Are you looking for a great looking pizza cutter that actually works and cleans up easily? This is that pizza cutter.
The wood used to create the handle for this pizza cutter is Maple Burl. A burl is the growth found on some trees and the grain inside the burl is usually highly figured. The burl wood may have minor cracks and bark in it. Those things don't hurt the quality of the handle, they only add to the uniqueness of the piece.
This pizza cutter features a threaded handle that can easily be removed. This allows for the handle to be removed so the cutting wheel can be washed either by hand or in a dishwasher. The wheel is 4 inches in diameter and made from stainless steel, the handle is almost 6 inches long. The overall length is approximately 10 3/4 inches. This pizza cutter weighs about 1 pound. You will appreciate the weight because it makes the cutting job much easier.
I start the creation process by putting the wood onto my lathe and drill a hole. I then use a tap to thread the hole to accept the threaded insert for the handle. Then it's time to shape the handle using only hand tools and turning everything by eye on my lathe.
The finish on the handle is a food grade polymerized tung oil and a wax mixture which gives a nice luster to the handle. So it's safe to use on your food and cleans up easily. Care instructions are included.
We have been using one of these pizza cutters here in our own house for over 5.5 years now and it still works great. We also use it to cut homemade quesadillas. If the wheel should get dull, it can be sharpened.
