Welcome to Dailey Woodworking!
Looking to add some color to your table or counter? One of these 8 inch Haynes salt mills or pepper mills should do it for you. The wood starts out as 49 layers of 1/16" Birch veneer that have been dyed and glued together. In the case of this mill, it is single layers of charcoal, red, yellow, green and turquoise repeating over and over again. This wooden peppermill is worked completely on the lathe. I drill the head and body first. Once the drilling is complete I then shape the head and body using hand tools and turning everything by eye on my lathe. The finish on the mill is a food grade polymerized tung oil and a wax mixture which gives a nice luster to the mill. So it's safe to use on your food and cleans up easily. Care instructions are included.Although you can look at the top of the adjustment knob for an S or P to see whether it is salt or pepper I use the beads/rings near the bottom of the mill to help you tell the difference as well. If the mill has three beads/rings it is a pepper mill and if the mill has one bead/ring it is a salt mill. This hand turned pepper mill is 2 5/8" in diameter at the base and tapers to 1 3/8" just above the beads/rings and stands 8 1/2" tall. Because this is turned by eye all measurements are approximate. This shape came about one winter day I was outside breaking the icicles and ice off from the eves of my house and I realized that a droplet of water would be a great shape. So if you turn the pepper grinder upside down you will see my version of a water droplet. Complete from the moment when the droplet is about to break free and becomes very elongated (everything below the head) to the moment when the droplet has just broken free (the actual head).I’m very particular about all of the components that go into any our products and the crushing mechanisms are no exception. One of the best is made right here in the United States. It’s a stainless steel mechanism for pepper with a separate salt mechanism made from ceramic. You are placing an order for this mill. You will not receive this exact one. There will be subtle differences from the one pictured because they are all one of a kind mills.
From the time that you place your order, it will take approximately 3 to 5 days to make your mill. That does not include shipping time.
