Bowls 14, 15 and 16 off 100 wooden bowls in 100 days challenge
Well I got started again last week on posting my 100 wooden bowls in 100 days challenge and wouldn’t you know it I hurt myself. I was working on a natural edge bowl and cut the inside of my thumb pretty badly. It wasn’t really a turning accident because I had stopped the lathe to remove a piece of bark. The bark was more stubborn than I thought it would be and I was to stupid to use a tool to break the bark free so I got what I deserved. When the bark finally did come free I cut my thumb on a sharp edge of the bowl where the bark had just been. Anyways I had to stop turning for a few days while the cut healed up. Normally I would just throw a band-aid on the cut area and curse myself out for doing something really stupid but every time I applied pressure to a tool I was in pain so I figured I should smarten up and listen to the little voice in my head. Yep, the same little voice that I didn’t listen to earlier when I was removing the piece of bark. Ah, the trials and tribulations of a wood turner.
Spiral bowls. So what I have for you today are a series of three wooden bowls that I’ve colored and spiral textured the bottoms of. Maybe I should call them M & M bowls because the inspiration for them came from the different colors of M & M candies. But I think I will call them spiral bowls so that I don’t get sued.
Each bowl was turned in the same way, then I dyed the bottom either blue, green or red and then I textured the bottom to come up with a spiraling effect. These are all small wood bowls because this was an experiment but I like the overall effect of both the color and texturing so I will try this on some salad bowls soon to see how those come out.
You can read more about the blue bowl here.
You can read more about the red bowl here.
And you can read more about the green bowl here.
