Bowl 20 in my 100 wooden bowls in 100 days challenge

Well it’s been almost a month since my last post and there has been a huge delay in my 100 bowls challenge. Unfortunately I re-injured my forearm. I was in a car accident in 2005 and as a result of that accident I have a metal plate in my left forearm. From time to time the tendons running over it get inflamed and swell up usually because of being stupid and trying to lift something that‘s too heavy. The swelling usually goes down after a couple of days of ice packs but I wasn’t so lucky this time. I’m not sure what I did to it but the recovery time was a lot longer and the pain was enough so that it hurt considerably just to lift a tool let alone trying to work with them. Anyways everything is back to normal now and I am determined to finish my 100 wooden bowl challenge on time. So here is the first of many wood bowls to come.

Winged Maple Burl Wooden Bowl

This is bowl number 20 in my 100 wooden bowls in 100 day challenge. This is a winged bowl because of the way that the edges come out from the bowl and look like wings.

This unique wood bowl was handcrafted from a slice of a Maple Burl off from a Maple tree. This wood bowl has a natural edge all the way around the bowl. The natural edge is sometimes called live edge or bark edge. This winged wood bowl was hand turned on a wood lathe using only hand tools.

Thickness: 3/16 inches
