This hand crafted wooden salad bowl was turned from Spalted Birdseye Maple. The bowl does have some small Birdseye areas both on the inside and outside of the bowl.
This wooden salad bowl is 13 1/2 inches in diameter by 5 inches high. The foot is 4 3/8 inches wide and has been turned with a little concave to add stability. All sizes are approximate. Approximately 1/2 of an inch down from the rim I've added a decorative textured ring all around the bowl. This wooden bowl has a flat rim that gently slopes toward the center of the wood bowl.
The bowl has been finished with an all natural polymerized Tung oil and wax finish which makes it food safe and then it's been buffed with three layers of wax to bring it to a nice luster.
This bowl was hand turned on a lathe and was made in Maine with pride.
The bowl that you see pictured is the bowl that you will receive. Care instructions will be included.
This hand turned bowl is a one of a kind wooden bowl and has been signed by the artisan. This wood bowl could be used for a salad bowl, a fruit bowl, a popcorn bowl and much more. This wood bowl would make a great wedding present or anniversary gift.
Spalting is usually found in wood that has been cut down for a year or more and has started the process of returning itself to the earth. You will usually have areas with black and dark brown lines around them. These areas remind me of boundary lines found on maps.
